St. Louis Rams team report: Injury woes at cornerback continue
The injury woes at cornerback just won't stop for the Rams. Justin King, the last remaining Rams corner from the season-opening 53-man roster, tweaked his right ankle midway through practice Thursday.
King didn't think the injury was serious, but he didn't finish practice. The Rams are keeping their fingers crossed the ankle doesn't swell up overnight.
The only other corners on the roster are Rod Hood, Josh Gordy, Marquis Johnson, and Nate Ness. Ness was promoted from the practice squad Wednesday. Johnson was activated from the PUP list three weeks ago. Gordy spent the first two weeks on the Rams' practice squad after being cut by Green Bay. Hood has played sparingly in two games after missing the entire 2010 season (with Tennessee) because of a knee injury. So we're hardly talking about the Dream Team here.
Even with a less-than- stellar passer in QB Tarvaris Jackson of Seattle next up, the Rams' could be in trouble in the secondary if King is unable to play Sunday.
Meanwhile, help could be on the way in the St. Louis passing game. After missing the Cleveland game with a foot injury, tight end Lance Kendricks practiced Thursday and moved around pretty well. Kendricks has had his ups and downs as a rookie, and hasn't played up to his dazzling preseason stats, but with Michael Hoomanawanui out with a knee injury, he's the only receiving threat left in the tight end corps.
