Jackson ready for game three
Since Friday's preseason game against Kansas City is the third of four exhibition contests it's more or less a dress rehearsal for the Rams. You'll see the regulars in there more but not too long. Perfect example, running back Steven Jackson.
As I've said before, I'm not concerned at all about Jack rushing for just ten yards on six carries last Saturday against Tennessee. It was his first preseason game and yeah there might have been a little rust there but nothing to go crazy over. Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo told me Wednesday that he plans on playing Jackson a good bit but not for too long. He wants to be careful so Jackson doesn't get hurt. Spags wants '39' to get more comfortable with the offense and get him to a point where he's ready to go for the first game of the season (September 11th).
When I asked Jackson what's the one thing that must happen if he's going to have another stellar year? He answered, being on the field, which means staying healthy. Jack is an extremely extremely tough player who doesn't want to ever come out of a game, more or less miss any games. And again, that's why I think SJ could have another big year, maybe getting in the endzone more, because Jerious Norwood and Cadillac Williams are here to give him a breather when he needs one. But Jackson is right, he needs to be on the field plenty this season.
